You may have heard that HotHouse is in trouble, again. A month ago, the Tribune’s Howard Reich announced what many already suspected; that between the Board battle that forced out founder Marguerite Horberg, high overhead and funding shortages, things did not look good. $70,000 was reportedly owed in taxes, all staff but the new Managing Director were let go and programming was curtailed.
Reich reported in today’s Trib that its now official; the venue will close at the end of July.
I’ve hosted many events at HotHouse, and we’re sad to see the current location, home to cross-cultural dialiogue and global espression, close. Hopefully a stronger more financially viable producing organization and venue will emerge, perhaps even reuniting with Horberg.
In the interim, KFAR’s July 15 show with Erran Baron Cohen and Zohar will not be affected by the closure, and in fact it will be one of the last shows on Balbo and a final opportunity to enjoy hothouse’s venerable stage. Hope you’ll join us for that…
