Chicago’s North Side synagogue that was vandalized last year with anti-Semitic graffiti was burglarized Friday night, police said.
Audio-visual equipment, computers and donated food were taken from the Agudas Achim-North Shore Congregation at 5029 N. Kenmore, according to members of the congregation.
“It breaks your heart,” said Rabbi Philip Lefkowitz. “But it doesn’t stop your prayers.”
Lefkowitz said there was another burglary earlier this year. Police opened a hate-crime investigation in February 2006 after anti-Semitic graffiti was discovered at the synagogue, many of whose members are elderly and emigrated from the former Soviet Union.
