Puppets for Peace?

Posted on Monday 7 May 2007

Rechov Sumsum returns to the Israeli airwaves this year, marking the first time in @@@ years the Israeli version of Sesame Street produces new episodes. There will be some new charachters, however.

A new feature is the first Arab puppet in the Israeli series, “Rechov Sumsum.” Its Palestinian counterpart, “Shara’a Simsim,” seeks to offer positive role models to boys in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Brings a whole new meaning to the idea of a middle-eastern Puppet Regime…

**UPDATE**

There was a report this morning on NPR about Hamas using a Mickey Mouse-like charachter to preach violent “resistance” to children.  Ick.  Here’s more information.
