Professor Elliot Gershon, Professor Yitzhak Melamed, and Dean Alison
Boden will consider the perennially vexing question of whether the
latke or the hamantash is the most superior Jewish holiday food. This
year marks the 60th time that some of the University of Chicago’s
brightest minds have attempted to resolve the issue.Philosophy professor Ted Cohen will return in his role as moderator,
Karl Fogel will return in his role as pianist, and Chicago Rhythm &
Jews will also perform. The debate will be followed by a reception at
which latkes and hamentashen will be served. The Latke-Hamantash Debate is sponsored by the Neubauer Family
Foundation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The debate is free and open
to the public. Reception tickets will be $5 at the door.
Gershon is a Psych prof. Wonder if he’ll argue that one or the other foodstuff is Neurogenetically programmed into the mind….
