Obama ‘08

Posted on Thursday 2 November 2006

Black Jesus, Moshiach, Christ Risen and 13th Imam rolled into one. The Junior Senator from the Land of Lincoln, all but crowned by the prophetess Oprah, the (precinct) captains of hundreds and the (media) captains of thousands have practically crowned him. Everyone outside Illinois knows nothing about him other than that he’s the Tiger Woods of American Politics; mutli-ethnic, first generation, bright, well-spoken and eeeeasy on the eyes. And at long last, the man long reluctant to shoulder a mantle of leadership thrust upon him. But they should get to know him.  He is Barack Obama, our next President.
When he ran for Senate a few years ago, everyone wanted to work on his campaign, contribute somehow, not because it might gain someone experience or contacts or some personal good as it might working for Dick Durbin, Rahm Emmanuel or even Blago, but because it might do the country some good. It was evident then. Now its obvious, and the rest of the country is going to find out somewhere around November 10th.

Just when you thought our ‘08 options were going to be Hilary Clinton and John McCain, lose faith in America and pack your bags for Israel because for a change the government there seemed less corrupt, along came Obama. Hear him speak, read his book, and restore your faith in the USA.  You will go out an buy a t-shirt that reads, “I.Am.Obama.” or “Obama ‘08.” A Half-Black Jack Kennedy whose Kenyan father is a lapsed Muslim and a without the baggage.

He is active in the Save Darfur campaign and while in Israel, Obama met with Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom and when he met with a group of Palestinian students two weeks before Hamas won the January 2006 Palestinian legislative election, said, “the US will never recognize winning Hamas candidates unless the group renounces its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel”, and conveyed the same message in his meeting with Palestinian authority President Mahmoud Abbas. After the election, editorial columnist George F. Will coined the phrase “Garbage Collection Theory of History, ” referring to Obama’s comment, “My hope is that as a consequence of now being responsible for electricity and picking up garbage and basic services to the Palestinian people, that they recognize it’s time to moderate their stance.”
This summer, SLATE ran an article by Michael Weiss contrasting Obama’s faith with Bush’s.

“I was able to see faith as more than just a comfort to the weary or a hedge against death, but rather as an active, palpable agent in the world.”  But—and he is firm about this—conversion wasn’t for him the end point. “Faith doesn’t mean that you don’t have doubts. You need to come to church in the first place precisely because you are first of this world, not apart from it,” he said last week.

If he runs, which he most likely will, he will be our next President.  A new age for America is being ushered in; November 6th will hasten the days of the coming of the Obama. Its not that I’m a registered Democrat or that I hate Bush and what the GOP has done. For the first time since I began to vote, I’m excited about an individual that isn’t the lesser of two evils, but one of the best options in decades. We’re just waiting for him to reveal himself as messiah announce.  Have hope- he’s ready, why wait, Obama, ‘08.
