Once again, we learned too late about a great program (THE ASBI announcement went out Monday a 4:53 for a program Tuesday at 10am, wha?) for a Lincoln Park Zoo tour with Rabbi Natan Slifkin, the famed ZooRabbi on a tour of the Lincoln Park Zoo. don’t know who put it together a little more advance notice would be good…
Slifkin’s been criticized in ulta-orthodox circles and had his books banned because of his views on evolution and Judaism. His latest, which attacks the subject head on is ““The Challenge of Creation: Judaism’s Encounter with Science, Cosmology, and Evolution.” But what makes his material compelling is his take on nature, animals and how they relate to the Torah.
His website has him riding an elephant, talking about a bear, feeding an ostrich and wrestling various vicious beasties. Okay, maybe not, maybe its not exactly Crocodile Jack, but its good fun nonetheless. And come on, its the zoo. Its animals. What a great, refreshing way to talk about Judiasm. Steven I Weiss of Canonist interviewed Slifkin on BeliefeNet.
I found the info on another blog…contacted R’ Slifkin and then contacted the shul on Monday. It was not the shul’s fault.
I hear that. The shul is good about promoting the events, its just frustrating that good programs somehow don’t get advertised well.
