Our Turn Our grandparents built synagogues and our parents joined them. We build websites and join myspace.com. We’re different from past Jewish generations, and we know it. There’s studies and evidence out there backing it up, but we feel it in our kishkes.
The question What does our connection to Judaism, synagogues, Israel and other young Jews really look like? It isn’t gone altogether, but its clearly not what the old men in boardrooms think it or should be.
So we want to know how you feel about things Jewish: Rabbis, rules, services, dating, JCCs, memberships, Shabbat, movements, jdate, singles, fundraising, events and young adult groups, culture- everything. Feel free to rant, bitch, applaud, free associate and appreciate. We know how we feel, and your input will probably validate our mishegas. Nothing is out of bounds.
The future Having thought about all that, what are you interested in? What about your heritage turns you on and makes you proud to be a Jew? And what would your ideal connection to your heritage be? Imagine there were a blank slate and endless funding.
The vision What would it look like? How is it networked? What would it do? How do you connect to it, figuratively and literally? Are there memberships? What about learning? Are synagogues involved? What role can technology play? What events and activities would there be? Where would they happen? Are there groups already doing cool things that are part of it? Dare to dream.
The story There’s a funder. They want to make a difference. They’ve heard from the Rabbis and institutional professionals and know what they think. They know the opinion that really matters is yours, and they want it.
The deal There’s money to make your ideas happen. We can’t say who had it, but send us your thoughts, dreams and concepts, no matter how absurd or counter-intuitive (this is jewishfringe afterall…). Tell us what excites you about your own Jewishness and what would get you off the couch and to connect to others who feel the same.
Forward this to your friends and send your ideas to connect@jewishfringe.com
