There’s two interesting Jewish music acts in town this weekend. I’ll write about the second in a seperate post. The first performs Saturday night at Hothouse, DJ Cheb i Sabbah, a Berber Jew, plays his Magrhebi-cum-Bhangra Remixes off his latest album, La Kahena. Here’s a Pitchfork review. La Kahena was, btw, a Jewish Berber Queen best known for waging war against the marauding armies that tried (and failed thanks to her) to convert all of North Africa to Islam under the sword. Not your typical DJ stuff.
