Kavanah Minyan this Friday

Posted on Tuesday 13 June 2006

A few months ago, I sat down with Samayach and a few other folks to talk about putting together a new monthly Friday night minyan. We wanted something organic, spiritual, egalitarian, communal and a bit different from current offerings. There’d been some previous attempts to get something off the ground, namely Kehillat Naor, but none have lasted because they didn’t seem to be about the community that developed around them.

What evolved has been a great new, open and vibrant community that officially gathers monthly (though its been gathering more informally as well) for a Shabbat experience that includes prayer, meditation, awesome food and GORKA (I can’t explain it, you just ahve to experience it). Shabbat at Becky’s has been great- warm and open. There’s been some real good stuff happening there, and I”m so glad to be part of it. This month Becky’s in Israel, though, and then we love her great apartment, and so rather than take a coule months off, I’m picking up the ball. I thought we’d enjoy the nice weather and do one outside and Liz P. offered her patio up.

So on Friday night we’ll have a Kavanah Shabbat Under The Stars. After the service, we’ll have a veggie/milchig potluck dinner. If you’d like to come, git yo’self on the evite: here’s the shizzy.
