Last night Yosi Piamenta and I headed out to a small blues club on the West side called Rosa’s. I’d never been there, and wasn’t sure what to expect. about 30 people were there to see open mic, and of course Yosi sat in, kicking off with a blistering Hendrix cover, then Moni joined him for a red-throated blues wailer, and closed out with a boogie woogie number I didn’t recognize. The crowd loved him, but the real surprise was that half the place was Jewish. People came up and spoke in Hebrew. 8 Evanston Hebrew hipsters were there to, of all things, celebrate one of their conversions to Judaism. It was Beautiful. Alex Levy is dunking in mikvah today, welcome to the tribe. HaShem couldn’t have planned a better way to get welcomed to the family, or did he? Yad Elokim Bakol, baby.
