I hit the AIPAC party last night @ Alive One. Not as bumpin’ as one would hope, a decent showing of about 100 party-line towing Israel lovers. I’d have thought they’d have alot more there, but with the j-connect shindig the night prior and the walk this weekend and it being a schoolnight, well, 100 is pretty okay. Had an interested conversation about the wuss nature of the Walk with Israel, tucked away safely at McCormick, as opposed to marching on Daley Plaza with event organizer Shira Wachtel. I like her style. Saw a lot of familiar faces I hadn’t seen in a while; the indefagitable Helen Bloch, Debra Gassman, Dave Rotter and Heather Fruen. Also Aleah Siegel, and Sr. Abitbol, Andrea Goynshor and Ms. Mini-kishke”, Marcie Freedland. They passed out Bissli. Ick. They poured Makers when I asked for a bourbon. Yea.
I also met some righteous folk from St. Louis whom are now fellow West Side Jews. There’s a growing number of us living west of Damen Ave and methinks we need to have a get together soon. After the party died, I hit Griffin’s for a while to check out the always fun Hack and Wheeze, a fantastic Phish cover band that plays there every Thursday. Truly worth checking out once in a blue moon to absorb the scene, hear tight covers I haven’t listend to iin years, and hey, they don’t gig anywhere else.
Finally, a few shouts: to fellow j-blogsmonauts Cara of Cara’s World and to Mobius from Jewschool, who designed the fab Piamenta banner we’re using and was just awarded a Dorot Felowship. ‘Shkoyach
Thanks to DP for meeting with me and eating fried cheese in Greektown, to glamourous Marla Gordon for her t-shirts and counsel, and to MML, well, we tried.
Shabbat Shalom.
