I spent the better part of today setting up the Yom HaatzmaART installation with the Artists for Israel kids from the School fo the Art Institute. What a talented bunch, and I realized that this show is a huge deal for them. They show pieces all year, but never to they get to show together as Jewish students and to do so at a legit gallery, backed by a legit arts organization outside of the school gives their Hillel incredible street cred among faculty the students, esp. the Jewish ones who won’t have anything to do with Hillel beause they’re either too cool, too lefty (brainwashed) or too busy. The show already attracted 3 new students to their group just by virtue of participating, Attending will be a whole ‘nother bunch, so this is a valuable marketing tool for them. I hope to be able to help them out annually in this fashion. Its too band that they have to go through Israel on Campus funds to do this program, rather than tapping a normal program budget… Maybe they should give me a piece of their program budget to more of these events, since it ultimately helps their bottom line. Anyways. The show is going to be great and I’ll post links to the pictures which I’ll be posting on the KFAR site shortly.
The UJC called today.
Can KFAR help them set up an experiential arts event for a Renaissance and Renewal Conference they’re hosting in LA? Uh, yes please and so glad you called. Talk about a call that makes your day. IOW, I might get to go and put together an awesome program fo them, get compensated as a consultant AND speak to 150 community leaders about how to put together cutting-edge programs like those I execute. Dream assignment. Maybe some of these attendees will ask me to do it for them… Maybe I’ll get paid… Which reminds me…
The Crackers in Detroit finally paid up.
What’s worse than an organization that does bad programs and is wasteful? One that doesn’t pay. They left our boy Yuri hanging for 8 weeks without a check. It took 12 calls, 6 emails, 2 paypal requests and some very real threats to get the check. Like I have time to chase deadbeats. That’s okay, I warned the artists they hired for their music festival about thier ways. Forwarned is forearmed, artists.
The Next Big KFAR event…
I’m doing a show with Piamenta for Lag B’Omer at The Note. I’ve very excited and it will be very cool. Thanks to Velvel for for the nice plug!

My sister Carin, of JewishJournal.com fame, is officially the first member of the Davis clan to reach Eretz haKodesh. You’d think that it would have been me, being both oldest and most observant, but being the Carrie Bradshaw of Jewish LA has is priveledges and one is going on a non-Birthright trip with entertainment industry movers and shakers. Not to be outdone, Jordan has registered for a trip with a thought about going later this summer. B’H I’ll go next, but Kol Hakavod to my sister for being the chalutza of our family, and to Jordan for beating me to the punch as well.
